Chakra Yoga Teacher Training

at Inspiration Yoga Institute

January 6th- January 28th 2012

Utilizaing the ancient science of the Chakra sytem, we will go on an experiential journey into Patanjali's 8 limbed Yoga system. We will explore the relevence of each chakra in our own daily life and learn how different asanas (postures), pranayama (breath practices), and meditations effect the balance or imbalance of each Chakra.

A pilgrimage through 7 lenses of perception...

Yoga is a philosophy, a science, and an art that celebrates the union of body, mind, and spirit. In its purest, most traditional form, it’s a system capable of answering all human needs. Traditionally practiced as a prerequisite to meditation, yoga goes beyond tonifying, strengthening, stretching, and relaxing the physical body. It is a practice that continually evolves with strong discipline and the use of breath (pranayama) to calm the mind, enhance will power, motivate individuality, open the heart, and inspire the deepest desires of the soul.

Yoga can be understood as a set of behaviors that develops a holistic experience of the body, heart, and mind. It is a process of fully inhabiting ourselves and our life in a radically engaging and inquisitive way. Through yoga training we form intimate relationships with our bodies and minds, which brings us to a quality of being that is open and awake. This mind-body presence serves as the ground for compassion and wisdom to emerge within us.

Yoga joins seemingly opposing aspects and layers of our being; the result of which is a non-duel, all inclusive state of mind in which we are able to experience the challenging dichotomies of life without falling into dualism. The masters of Yoga recognized that we can never be completely satisfied until we have found the source of happiness beyond pleasure and pain. Yoga is a set of practices that moves us out of our comfort zone in our bodies and minds, engendering the possibility of broadening our capacity for connection and inclusion.

The fruition of a committed yoga practice is the ability to deeply relax the inner struggle with life’s paradoxes. A yogi is better able to tolerate the extremities of hot and cold, agility or immobility, sadness or joy, free from confusion, resistance, or struggle. In yoga, an individual learns to be fully engaged in feeling physical sensations and mental states as well as observing their tendencies and habitual ways that they respond to discomfort, pleasure, and joy.

Yoga is an ineffable art that can be practiced by anyone. Though backed with philosophy, yoga does not reveal itself through theorization. Only by practice can one experience the effects of the various asanas and pranayamas on the body, mind, and spirit. The fruits of a spiritual path are subjective. The path is the subjective experience.

“If we fear change and tend to cling to our established ways, we cannot succeed in Yoga.” (Feuerstein)
